Kaduna Residents Protest After 6 People Kidnapped in Latest Nigeria Abduction


The police said they were continuing their efforts to secure the release of the abductees.


Residents of Danhono II community in Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, staged a protest after six of their residents were abducted by suspected bandits.

When gunmen invaded the area and abducted residents from their homes.

The incident has left the community in a state of panic, prompting youths, women and other residents to take to the streets and march to the local police station to complain about the deteriorating security situation.

A video circulating on social media showed some youths expressing their concerns over the increasing number of kidnappings in the area.

Investigation also revealed that a former journalist, Malam Umar, was kidnapped from his home in the area about four weeks ago and is still in the hands of kidnappers despite a ransom being paid.

A youth leader in the area, who requested anonymity, told our correspondent that residents heard gunshots at around 12 midnight before it was later confirmed that six people had been kidnapped.

The protests followed a spate of kidnappings in the area, particularly over the identities of the six abductees. It is unfortunate that residents of the area are living in fear, even fearing to sleep in their homes,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the command had received the protesters and deployed officers to the area.

We received the complaint from the protesters, and officers have already been deployed to the area. Efforts are also underway to secure the release of the abductees, DSP Mansir Hassan said.
